Anecdote time: Minimalism was a big internet movement which reached its peak around 2015. While there wasn’t one particular individual associated with the movement, there were two famous people in that circle who decided to make a very detailed account of how minimalism change their lives. To an outsider, it seemed like a great idea. Initially the documentary they released provided some thought-provoking and interesting ideas that most people could use in their day-to-day lives, and provided introduction to what the entire concept of minimalism was all about. However, the ironic part is shortly after they decided to release another documentary, rehashing the same ideas all over again. If something called minimalism by people who call themselves the minimalists requires to essentially two documentaries and a few books, which basically talk about the same thing all over again isn’t the whole point of minimalism defeated?

It’s crucial to note that self-help can become toxic when it is used as a crutch to avoid taking action. The abundance of self-help books available has created an era of toxic productivity where people spend more time learning how to be productive than actually being productive. When one spends more time tinkering and coming up with a perfect system rather than spending time doing meaningful work, it is detrimental.

It’s also worth noting that not all self-help books are created equal. While some may offer genuinely helpful advice and insights, others may simply regurgitate common platitudes and offer little practical value.
